Axiom is a free and portable open source tool, just like the FFmpeg library it uses. You must have the correct download archive (Axiom.ffmpeg.7z), which you can extract with 7-zip†You then start the app with a double click on Axiom.exewhich will take you to the program window (a graphical interface for FFmpeg).
Basic conversion
Logically, you first add the desired media file. Or the url, because that is also possible. Then you indicate exactly how this should be done. That’s how you can get to format setting the (container) format for video (webm, mp4, mkv, mpg, avi and ogv), audio (mp3, m4a, ogg, flac and wav) and images (jpg, png and webp). With video you can also set the start and end time for a specific fragment.
You can also indicate whether you only want video, audio or both, and in what quality and resolution. If necessary, you can first view or listen to a preview.
extra options
But many more settings are possible. That’s how you can get to Video choose from numerous technical options, such as the codec, encoding speed, pixel size and frame rate. Numerous settings are also possible in terms of color and size.
Via the button audio you will find adjustable items such as codec, stream, channel, bitrate, depth, compression and volume. It is also possible to combine multiple media streams in one container (muxing), for example to quickly provide video with different audio. You can also subtitle your videos.
There is also the button Filters, with which you can apply all kinds of effects to your video or audio. For example, in the case of video Deinterlace†Deflicker†Flip and Rotate, usually with different options. Finally, there is one more useful batchbutton that allows you to perform conversions of multiple media files at the same time.
Conclusion
You can use Axiom for fast standard conversions of all kinds of media files, but then you miss out on the impressive arsenal of functions – thanks to the unsurpassed FFmpeg.
