The ancestor of the Porsche 911 is a beloved and therefore precious classic. In addition to closed versions, the model has also known various open variants, but a taste that most resembles a snowmobile is also new to us. Thanks to Valkyrie Racing, such a Porsche 356 with tracks and skis at the front really exists.
Meanwhile, electric powertrains are regularly spooned into classics, which is not equally good for all enthusiasts. The Porsche 356 converted into a unique snowmobile that you see in these photos is likely to receive less criticism. It has a good purpose attached to it.
The car you see in these photos is a 1956 Porsche 356A, the second year of production of those 356 series. The copy in question belongs to Valkyrie Racing, which is part of the non-profit organization Valkyrie Gives. This club collects money to combat human trafficking and, in particular, child trafficking. Under the name Project 356 World Rally, Valkyrie Racing participates in various monster tours on virtually all continents with the classic Porsche. The Porsche has competed in Beijing-to-Paris and the East African Rally this year. The 65-year-old Porsche is now being prepared for an adventure in Antarctica and, of course, you won’t get anywhere even with special winter tires with studs.
As a result, the Porsche 356 undergoes a thorough renovation. The usual extra set of lighting has been removed from the classic, as it will be light almost 24 hours a day in Antarctica for the foreseeable future. The 356 gets tracks at the rear and the front wheels are replaced by skis. In addition, Valkyrie Racing hangs the car full of solar panels, an air-cushion jack and an extra winch. Everyone who donates $356 or more to support the cause will receive a cap and a photo with their name written under the front cover.
