The BPM beast likes it raw
The Toyota GR Yaris is a hot hatch full of superlatives. This also applies to the significantly updated version. It is not only stronger and faster, but also almost one and a half times as expensive as the model before the renewal round. And then we are talking about the least expensive GR Yaris. The prices rise to almost €100,000. You guessed it: the Toyota GR Yaris is almost bitten to death by the BPM jaws of the tax authorities.
At the beginning of this year, Toyota presented a thoroughly updated version of the GR Yaris. It not only got a new front, a new buttocks and a complete interior, but also an even more powerful drivetrain. The 261 hp strong 1.6 three-cylinder made way for a 280 hp and 390 Nm strong 1.6. Previously, the GR Yaris was only available with a manual gearbox, but the new one is also available with an automatic transmission. In the Yaris segment, there is no sporty hatchback that even comes close to the hardware that Toyota has put in the GR Yaris. It is brave of the Dutch importer to also bring the updated Toyota GR Yaris to the Netherlands. It has become very pricey.
Before the facelift, the Toyota GR Yaris was in the Dutch order books for just under €60,000. That was of course a variant with a manual gearbox, after all, an automatic was not yet available in the Japanese fun machine. The updated Toyota GR Yaris with manual gearbox is priced at – hold on – €81,795. So it has become about €22,000 more expensive. No less than €33,419 of the purchase price will be paid directly to the state treasury. That 33 grand is just bpm. The Toyota GR Yaris with automatic transmission is hit even harder by the BPM monster. It is available from a pleasantly crazy €94,295. That amount is for the Performance version. Equipped as a more expensive Premium, it will cost you €98,295. So almost €100,000! Of this, €43,000 is bpm. Indeed: for the BPM amount on the GR Yaris with automatic transmission you can almost buy a brand new Toyota Prius.
