Cupra announces that its first purely electrically available model will not be called ‘el-Born’, but Born. This year, the sportier Spanish brother of the Volkswagen ID3 will hit the market.
Last summer, Cupra unveiled the el-Born. A relatively compact five-door EV, which shares its MEB base, among other things, with the clearly related Volkswagen ID3. In short, this is the Seat brother of the ID3, which was eventually moved to Cupra. Since the sportier Cupra brings the car to the market, you can also expect it to be a bit more exciting than the Volkswagen ID3. This is evident from the exterior decoration, with the large partly copper-colored wheels, but also in the interior, things like Alcantara upholstery and sports seats provide a sporty touch.
Cupra has now announced that the name ‘el-Born’, which was still on the car last summer, is giving way to Born. The Cupra Born is named after a hip neighborhood in Barcelona, where they are probably also charmed with some extra decoration on a car. After all, that is what de Born needs it from, decoration. Cupra reports no other specifications than last summer, so we can assume that the Born delivers the same performance as the Volkswagen ID3. So count on a 204 hp version with a 77 kWh battery pack as the topper. Cupra states that the Born can travel 500 km on a full battery.
The Born will go into production in Zwickau in the second half of this year, the same factory where the ID3 rolls off the production line. We therefore expect a market introduction by the end of the year.
