Cupra Born reveals some details

Cupra is eager to unveil its all-new electric Born, the Spanish counterpart of the Volkswagen ID3. The brand is already showing some details.

Just over a week and then Cupra will pull the curtain off the Born in Barcelona. A car that you will immediately recognize as an electric model of the Volkswagen Group, not least because it largely follows the example of the Volkswagen ID3. Still, Cupra is of course working to make it sufficiently distinctive. The concept version, the el-Born presented last year, already showed this in broad outlines. Now we already get to see some details of the production version.

That the differences between the Born and the study model may be difficult to spot, is also apparent from these photos (1 to 5). We see headlights that almost resemble one of the el-Born. The decoration on the C-pillar, with a black block pattern, also survived the concept phase. In the interior of the Born you will find the block pattern again, on the dashboard. In this case, it is carried out in a somewhat more neutral dark gray than the purple-blue tint that came back many times in the concept car. The bronze-colored accents are still present and the Alcantara upholstery is also included.

It has to be your taste, but Cupra has at least picked up some frills typical of the young brand. Furthermore, to distinguish itself as more ‘sporty’, the Born will probably skip some of the milder powertrains that we know from the Volkswagen ID3 on the order list. The concept version had the 204 hp electric powertrain with a battery pack with 77 kWh capacity. Do not be surprised if the Born gets an even more powerful variant and the chassis is also more geared towards sporty driving. We will hear it on May 25; then the Born is revealed.
