‘Cupra comes with an electric model under Born’

The Born will be Cupra’s first fully electric car, but it certainly won’t be the last. Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths makes interesting statements to the English Autocar about the arrival of an electric model that will occupy a place under the Born within the Cupra pecking order.

Cupra will bring the Born on the market this year, Cupra’s electric compact mid-sized car that is strongly linked to the Volkswagen ID3. Reports from Autocar, which are based on statements by Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths, show that Cupra also has a smaller EV in the barrel. Griffiths describes that car as “[…] a small electric car. ”However, don’t expect the as-yet-unnamed compact electric Cupra to become a Mii-sized car.

The Born’s little brother is expected to be a car that comes close to the Ibiza dimensions. According to Griffiths, the compact electric Cupra will be placed on a version of the modular MEB platform specially developed for electric cars, specially designed for smaller EVs, which will be called MEB-Lite. Cupra may show a conceptual version of its electric newcomer later this year. Cupra will of course not remain the only Volkswagen Group brand to come up with an electric car smaller than the ID3 and Born. Undoubtedly, Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat each come with their own EVs in the ‘Polo segment’.
