100 kilometers of electric range as a plug-in
Cupra is working on a new own model after the Formentor and the Born. That will be an SUV whose name is as yet unknown. The first contours of that car can already be seen under a canvas.
The new Cupra SUV seems to be the more practical alternative to the Formentor. Cupra reports that it will have a length of ‘around 4.5 meters’, about the same size as the Formentor. The teaser photos show a rather sporty bonnet for an SUV. In addition, three LED seeds on each side through the canvas, which makes the car look pretty mean. Seen from the side, the car really has the profile of a traditional SUV and the rear window is quite upright. This makes it seem a lot more practical than the Formentor, which has a fairly flat rear window.
Cupra also reports that the new SUV will be on the market in 2024 and has ‘a new generation of PHEV technology’, with which the car should have an electric range of ‘around 100 kilometers’. It will also be available as a mild-hybrid variant. Further specifications of the powertrains are unknown. Moreover, Cupra does not mention a fully electric version. The latter would also bite somewhat with the Tavascan, which is also planned for 2024.
The still unnamed SUV is produced in Hungary alongside the Audi Q3 Sportback. Given its size, it is quite possible that this model will take the place of the Cupra Ateca. If we are to believe Cupra’s press release, it will be a model that is not derived from a Seat. To what extent the new Cupra SUV will differ from a possible successor for the Ateca will have to become clear later.
