Good news for those who were charmed by the Tavascan Concept that Cupra showed at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019. The model goes – albeit changed – into series production.
The Formentor is currently the only Cuptra model of which Seat does not supply its own version, but the Formentor will not remain the only ‘unique’ Cupra for long. TopGear reports that Cupra will eventually bring a production version of the Tavascan Concept to the market, based on statements made by none other than Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths.
Griffiths, also CEO of Seat since last year, tells the English medium that the development of a production model derived from the Tavascan Concept is in full swing. When the definitive production version comes on the market, the CEO is still in the middle. Griffiths does indicate that the appearance of the production Tavascan will be in line with that of the study model and that it will not be a poor substitute.
Cupra Tavascan Concept (2019)
Tavascan Concept
The Tavascan appears to be an electric SUV, just like its conceptual forerunner. The Tavascan Concept, presented in September 2019, was after all on the modular MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, intended solely for EVs. The now 1.5-year-old study model had on paper two 306 hp electric motors that turned the Tavascan into a four-wheel drive. In the ground was a battery pack with a capacity of 77 kWh, good for a WLTP range of 450 kilometers. Do not be surprised if the production version is also available with less potent electric powertrains.
