The next Skoda Fabia is being prepared for its market introduction in 2021. There will also be a Combi, but it will take a lot longer than the hatchback.
Skoda CEO Thomas Schäfer confirmed at the beginning of autumn that we can expect the new Skoda Fabia next year. Not long afterwards, the compact Czech was spotted disguised as a Volkswagen Polo and at the beginning of this month Schäfer had news about the Fabia again. The Fabia Combi will also get a successor. That was still a bit of a surprise, because Skoda will be the only one to offer such a compact station wagon. That news was generally received quite well. However, for anyone who thinks it is a good move, there is now a bit of a disappointment. The new Fabia Combi will not be available until 2023.
Schäfer said this in an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport. The current Fabia Combi has to last for quite a while and will be in the showroom next to the hatchback of the new generation. “We will build the current one until the end of 2022, the new one will probably be in the showroom by 2023,” said Schäfer. Incidentally, there is a greater role for the new Fabia than is currently the case. It must also serve customers who previously looked at a fuel-powered Citigo. According to Schäfer, an ‘attractively priced basic version’ should be published for this. The electric Citigo will also receive a successor on an MEB basis, roughly Skoda’s equivalent of the Volkswagen ID1.
