Down-to-earth Romanian stays ahead of T-Roc

The Dacia Sandero has been a straight hit in sales for years and in January the car was again the most popular new passenger car in Europe. The sober Romanian was well ahead of the Volkswagen T-Roc and the Peugeot 208 – the best-selling car in Europe in 2022 – did not come close to the Sandero.
Figures collected by Dataforce and published by Automotive News show that the Dacia Sandero was the most popular car in Europe in January. In the European Union, including the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, no fewer than 19,346 Sandero’s were registered in January this year. That was more than 3,000 more than in the same month last year (+20 percent). The Sandero remains well ahead of the Volkswagen T-Roc, which is in second place with 16,723 units delivered. In January, 31.6 percent more copies of the T-Roc were registered than in January last year. The Toyota Yaris is in third place with 14,037 units delivered. No model in the Top 10 managed to achieve such large growth figures as the compact Toyota (+54 percent).
The Peugeot 208 was allowed to call itself the most popular car in Europe in 2022, but will have to settle for seventh place in January this year. It is the only model in the Top 10 with fewer units registered in January than in January last year (12,683 units, -19 percent). The Volkswagen Golf and Peugeot 2008 fall outside the Top 10 in January due to disappointing registrations. The Volkswagen Golf ends in 11th place (-21 percent) with 11,055 units, while the Peugeot 2008 is in twelfth place with 10,895 registrations (-19 percent). We come across the Tesla Model Y in place 30 (6,889 units). The Model 3 is not in the Top 50.
