Daimler changes name to Mercedes-Benz Group

The time has come: Daimler will now officially go through life as Mercedes-Benz Group AG. The group thus completes a strategic reorganization that was approved by the shareholders last year, in which the Daimler Truck truck division was also separated from the automotive branch.

With the name change from Daimler to Mercedes-Benz Group, the trade fair symbol of the car manufacturer also changes: ‘DAI’ has now become ‘MBG’. Nothing will change for shareholders: the shares of Mercedes-Benz Group AG will remain listed on the German stock index DAX. Daimler Truck was launched separately last December at the Frankfurt stock exchange. Mercedes-Benz still has a minority interest of 35 percent.

The Mercedes-Benz Group focuses entirely on passenger cars of the Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-EQ brands. Delivery vans also fall under this sector. With the name change, Mercedes-Benz can better develop its ‘economic potential’ in the future and further increase its competitive position. In this way, the car manufacturer hopes to become more attractive to investors. “We want to continue the legacy of our founders by pursuing a leadership position in electromobility and vehicle software,” CEO Ola Källenius said in a statement. Mercedes-Benz is investing €70 billion in electrification and digitalization until 2025. The carmaker will also accelerate the roll-out of new EVs.
