At the moment, the Deepseek app has only been removed from the App Store of Italy. This is due to several privacy reasons. There is a good chance that more countries will follow, including the Netherlands.

The Italian privacy observers wondered whether the app did meet the GPDR, General Data Protection Regulation. In the Netherlands this is called the AVG, the General Data Protection Regulation. This is a privacy legislation that is applied in thirty different countries. One of their purposes is the protection of personal data within the European Union.

With most AI-chatbots you have to look out exactly what you share of your personal information. But the fact that Deepseek has chinese owners worries several countries.

The Italian privacy watchdog has now placed a number of questions regarding the AVG with the Chinese company. Among other things, it is asked what exactly data is stored and where the data is stored. They have given the company for twenty days to respond.

In the meantime, the Deepseek app is no longer available in Italy, both in the App Store and the Google Play Store. It is not known whether the makers themselves have removed the app or whether this was done by Apple or Google.

What about Apple’s AI with chatgpt?

Apple has also built its own AI with Chatbot into the iPhone. The functions is currently not available in the Netherlands. That will only be by April (if you have set the iPhone to English).

When Apple Intelligence finally comes here, privacy will not really be an issue. The assignments that you give the AI are processed locally on your iPhone. It is true that Apple has also built in OpenAi’s Chatgpt, but you must explicitly give it permission and allow it to use. Only then will the data be forwarded to Apple’s (secure) servers.
