Delivery problems for motorhomes and caravans seem to be over

It seems that the delivery problems for motorhomes and caravans as a result of the chip shortage are now over. As with passenger cars and delivery vans, the sale of mainly motorhomes was hampered by the chip crisis.

Caravans and motorhomes have been difficult to deliver in recent years due to, among other things, a shortage of chips and disruptions due to the war in Ukraine, while camping actually gained popularity during the corona pandemic. The supply problems now seem to be over, their branch association Kampeer en Caravan Industrie (KCI) reports on Monday. For most manufacturers, the number of deliveries has returned to pre-coronavirus levels, says chairman Leo Diepemaat. “Dealers and importers can thus meet demand again and can now deliver a new caravan, camper van or folding trailer fairly quickly or even from stock.”

The number of motorhomes in the Netherlands has grown strongly over the past five years, says KCI. At the end of last year, the Dutch owned more than 178,000 campers, five years earlier there were only 105,000 campers in our country. Especially in times of corona, camping had many advantages, according to Diepemaat. “Camping allows everyone to enjoy their holiday completely freely and in their own bubble. You choose your own path, your own schedule and you are extremely flexible.” Not only in the Netherlands there is a growing interest in motorhomes. Across Europe, the number of motorhomes and caravans has increased over the past five years, by about 20 percent to more than 6.3 million. Caravans are still much more popular in the Netherlands than campers: at the end of last year, more than 423,000 caravans were registered in the Netherlands, although the number of caravans has decreased slightly in recent years.
