For over 50 years, Seiko 5 Sports has been synonymous with a high level of reliability, durability, performance and value loved by mechanical watch enthusiasts around the world. With the creation of a new design and a wide new collection, this much-loved watch series has been given a new lease of life.
Modernized Seiko 5 Sports
The design of the latest Seiko 5 Sports collection is based on one of Seiko’s most beloved watches. Each watch in this collection features a modernized version of the famous case and all watches have the same arrow-shaped minute hand, signature hour markers and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The models are equipped with Seiko’s 4R36 automatic caliber with 24 jewels, manual winding mechanism and a power reserve of 41 hours.
The five values of Seiko 5
In 1963 the first Seiko 5 watch was made, the Seiko Sportmatic 5. It was Seiko’s first day-date automatic and the first ever in Japan. The ”5” represented the promise that every Seiko 5 watch would be equipped with five key features: an automatic movement, day-date display at the 3 o’clock position, water resistance, an embedded crown at the 4 o’clock position, and a durable case and strap. These features in combination with a spring and shock resistance system that were new for that time made the Seiko 5 watches distinctive in appearance and performance.
A new watch for the ’68 generation!
In 1968 the first Seiko 5 Sports were released. These watches were specially developed for people who wanted to wear a watch that they could trust during sports. In addition to the Seiko 5’s fundamental five values, the Seiko 5 Sports offered improved water resistance, reinforced glass, and luminescent hands and hour markers. In the years that followed, Seiko 5 Sports gained international fame among younger watch enthusiasts in particular. It was therefore a watch with a fresh look and dials in vibrant colors that you could wear everywhere.
