Recently, Omajin, a sub-brand of Netatmo, introduced a number of new products aimed at the younger generations. Read the review of the Omajin Smart Plug here, while the review of the Omajin Security Camera will be posted tomorrow. In this article you can read the review of the Omajin Baby Monitor Camera that was recently released. A baby monitor camera is a camera with specific aspects for keeping an eye on babies and (small) children.
Design and functionality
The nice design comes in two colors with a round head with two ears attached and measures 8 x 15 cm. If you don’t like the beige color of the head, you can put a supplied red one over it.
The camera can be placed on a shelf or mounted on something. A power adapter with 2 meter cord is part of the delivery. On the front there is a button for starting a call with the phone with the Omajin app installed.
All standard features are present, such as motion and sound or cry detection, HD or SD video with IR night vision, manual or auto-tracking horizontal and vertical positioning, bi-directional sound and a 64GB SD card is included for storing image information. .
Integration with Google Home and Amazon Alexa is possible if desired.
Practice
Once the SD card is detected, the card will start formatting and then be operational. However, no image is recorded as soon as sound or motion is detected and a notification is only sent to the phone when motion is detected, so no sound. The Sound Detection button in the app therefore has no function! This camera does not work as a security camera. Snapshots or video images can be taken manually, which can then be downloaded and forwarded if necessary. However, you don’t need 64 GB of storage for that!
App
Control is direct from the Omajin app to the camera via 2.4GHz WiFi, without the need for a bridge. The image and sound are displayed directly via the app, along with the temperature and humidity in the room.
In the app we also see a Lullaby button with which 5 songs can be played in order or randomly (random). A light is built into the bottom that can be controlled via the menu by color with stable light, slow flashing or neon light with quickly changing colors. A timer with time can be linked to it where you can enter the start and end time. That’s quite inconvenient. We would have preferred to see a button with which you turn on the light and/or music, which is reduced to zero in, for example, fifteen minutes.
Conclusion
The installation is simple and the baby monitor camera functions, but not optimally. The image is clear and can be saved with a manual action. There is still some room for improvement on this device, so it is not highly recommended with its 3-star rating.
