Do you need a charge card to charge at home?

The charging station you have at home is connected to your meter cupboard. And the power comes through your grid or your solar panels if you have them. And you pay for it too. There are different variants on which this charging station or wallbox can work.

Charge without charge card

You can set the charging station at home or at your business in such a way that you do not need a charging card. That is of course super easy! You arrive by car, connect the cable and it starts charging. And when you drive off, all you have to do is disconnect the cable and drive away. Convenience serves people.

Charging card required to charge at home

You can also set the charging station so that you do need a charging card to charge at home. Then charging actually works the same as with a public charging station. There are a few advantages to that.

• It works as a security. You can set (or have set) who is allowed to use the charging station. And with that you prevent others from using your power. At a charging station at an apartment, you will usually also need the charging card.
• The consumption is registered via the charge card. You know exactly how many kWh’s you charge with your car, or with other cards. That can be good for you to keep an overview. If you drive your company car, you can also use this to declare your electricity costs. Then your employer or company pays the costs of charging at home.

Key switch for extra security

If you want to protect against use by others, you can also secure the charging station with a key switch. Then the power can only be switched on with a key or via a remote control. Then you have extra control over the use of your charging station. With this security you could also set that you do not need a charge card to charge at home.
