Dodge Hornet caught at Schiphol

The Alfa Romeo Tonale gets an American brother. Parent company Stellantis puts a Dodge badge on it and the name Tonale will probably make way for ‘Hornet’. Thanks to AutoWeek reader Thierry, we can show you that Dodge Hornet up close. Thierry, thank you very much!

Dodge will soon be adding a car to its lineup that isn’t really a Dodge at all. Dodge borrows the Tonale from Alfa Romeo, but the brand does not just stick its own badges on it. The Dodge Hornet – if it’s actually going to be called that – pulls the Scudetto grille from the Tonale front and puts its own grille with accompanying front bumper in return. AutoWeek reader Thierry ran into the Dodge Hornet at Schiphol. The car may be on its way from Pomigliano in Italy – where the Tonale is produced – to the United States, although it is also possible that the packed Hornet will go on a test tour through Europe.

It is certainly not the first time in modern history that Dodge borrows a car from another brand. For example, the Dodge Attitude is secretly a Mitsubishi Attrage (Space Star ‘sedan’) and the Dodge Neon is actually a Fiat Tipo Sedan. The new Journey that Dodge sells in Mexico is another Chinese SUV.

Dodge can also use the Hornet quite well. In the United States, for example, it sells quite aging models. The Challenger and Charger come successively from 2008 and 2010 and the Durango is no longer a youngster with the introduction year 2011. Although the Dodge Hornet was caught in the Netherlands, you do not have to expect the car on the market in the Netherlands.
