Does light break down nicotine? If so, what is it broken down to?

Answer

Hi Peter,

I’ve done some research in the literature, but I haven’t found any indications that nicotine breaks down photochemically, unless in very special circumstances, where oxygen and a dye (a so-called sensitizer) are present.

Does light break down nicotine? If so, what is it broken down to?
