Does your body tan less quickly when you wear sunglasses?

I’ve been led to believe that your body tans less quickly if you wear sunglasses.

The explanation for this is the following: when you walk in the sun without sunglasses, your eyes send a signal to your brain. Your brain notices that there is a lot of sunlight and ensures that your skin protects itself against the radiation. This causes the skin to tan.

When you wear sunglasses, your eyes do not transmit that signal (or less strongly) to the brain and you would therefore tan less quickly. Is this correct?

Answer

Your brain has nothing to do with tanning or burning your skin. You’ve been told something!
