You can save on electricity costs by making smart use of your PC’s power management. Because why let the display glow and the processor run if it’s not necessary? But who decides what is needed: you or the PC? We explain how you can keep your PC out of sleep mode with Don’t Sleep.
If you use the computer for more than just word processing or web browsing, it can happen that that PC goes to sleep unintentionally. The reason: You haven’t used the computer for too long. It is the configured Power Scheme that detects this and does what you ask. Closing the video output, shutting down the hard drive… right down to putting the computer to sleep.
If you recognize the above and experience it – sometimes – as unwanted, then the utility Don’t Sleep really something for you. With Don’t Sleep you prevent the PC from falling asleep, for example, when you are watching an exciting movie.
Welles not sleeping
If you have installed and started Don’t Sleep, you will immediately see the two main tabs: Please don’t sleep and Sleep please. With on the first tab the options to prevent the PC from going to sleep. Here you can set which ‘shutting options’ should be blocked; from sleep mode to screen saver.
It is also possible to make your own schedules with which you can tell when you think that the PC should indeed be put to sleep. You can take into account the time clock, with the Battery, with the CPU and with the Network. The latter can be useful if you work ‘hands-free’ with streaming media.
Sleep is also allowed
The opposite of not sleeping is natural well sleep, and for that you go to work on the tab Sleep please. When you switch tabs, you will see that the icon (on the Taskbar, among others) of Don’t Sleep automatically adjusts! This is to indicate what Don’t Sleep is currently doing.
It is then possible to indicate for what reasons and when the screen may be switched off and/or the PC may be put into sleep mode. With the additional option of being able to influence the set Power Scheme; in order to make the PC perform better if you think it is necessary.
