Mercedes-Benz has a new generation GLC in the development rooms. The SUV that you can see as Mercedes’ opponent of cars like the Audi Q3, BMW X3 and Lexus NX. It will be available with a whole arsenal of powertrains and of course there are also fierce AMG versions. Today we can show you not only the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, but also its mighty 63 brother.
The GLC, presented in 2015 as the successor to the GLK, has been running for about six years now, which means that the gentlemen and ladies in Stuttgart have long and broadly focused their attention on a new generation of the SUV. After all, the C-class with which the GLC basically shares its technology has already been replaced by a completely new model. In terms of concept, the new GLC remains faithful to what you are used to from the model, which means that in addition to petrol and diesel versions, there will also be plug-in hybrids and sporty AMG versions. This new set of spy photos not only shows the fierce Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, but also the sub-topper 43 AMG.
Although the AMG recipe is a familiar one, the ingredients change. Both the 43 AMG and 63 AMG get fierce four-cylinder under the hood. This means that the new 43 AMG version loses two cylinders compared to the current model and that the new Mercedes-AMG GLC even has to make do with four cylinders than its predecessor. The current GLC 63 AMG has a mighty blown 4.0 V8, but like the six-cylinder of the 43 AMG, it will not return in the new GLC.
The wrapped GLC with two round exhaust pipes on each side of the rear bumper, is the 43 AMG variant. The heavier 63 version betrays its identity with its two sets of more square exhaust tailpipes. In addition, the 63 variant is emphatically thicker, complete with larger wheels, heavier braking and an accentuated appearance.
Whether the new GLC 63 AMG with its four-cylinder can approach or exceed the 476 hp of the 4.0 V8 of the outgoing model? Sure, but not without electrical assistance. As in the AMG versions of the new C-class yet to be introduced, the four-cylinder is very likely assisted by an electric motor. Mercedes-AMG already showed a plug-in hybrid AMG stunner with the GT 4-Door 63 E Performance during the IAA in Munich. Earlier, Mercedes-AMG already indicated what it plans to do in the electrical and plug-in area. Undoubtedly, the AMG versions of the GLC will make their public debut later than the regular versions.
