Extensive word processing features are available on the Mac in the Pages application. Don’t have it? You may still be able to download it for free.
Free word processing program
For a long time, TextEdit was the only free word processing program for the Mac. This is installed by default. But if you want to create an extensive document with, for example, images and a table of contents, the Pages program offers the solution.
On newer Mac computers, Pages is the default among all programs. click on finder > apps (macOS 10.15 Catalina or later) or Programs (macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier).
download pages
If it is not on your computer, you can download the program for free from the App Store (for macOS 10.14 or higher).
Download Pages as follows:
- In the Dock, click the App Store icon. If you can’t find it here, click finder > apps or Programs > App Store.
- Click in the search bar.
- Type ‘Pages’ (without quotes).
- Press Enter.
- The search results appear with the first result being the program Pages.
- click on Download and then on Install or Install app.
- Enter your Apple ID password and click Login.
- The text on the button will change to ‘Installation’ and when the installation is complete, the text will change to ‘Open’. Click to open the program directly.
In the future, open the program via finder > apps or Programs > Pages.
Note that in some cases the Mac may be too old to handle a new version of Pages.
