Along with iOS 14.5, Apple has also released software updates for the Apple Watch and the Mac: watchOS 7.4 and macOS 11.3 are now available for download and include some cool new features.
The main feature of watchOS 7.4 is that you can now use your Apple Watch to unlock your iPhone. Face ID often does not work well if you wear a mouth mask. If you keep an unlocked Apple Watch near your device, you still get access. If you want to use Face ID with a mouth mask, you have to set this up. You must also be running iOS 14.5 on your iPhone.

How to download watchOS 7.4:
- Connect your Apple Watch to the charger and make sure that the paired iPhone is and remains nearby;
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone;
- Tap on ‘General’ and go to ‘Software update’;
- Wait a moment for the update to appear on the screen and follow the instructions on the screen.
It’s a good idea to leave your Apple Watch on the charger during the update. Make sure that the battery is at least 50 percent full when you start updating. Make sure to back up your Apple Watch beforehand as well. Should the update unexpectedly go wrong, you will in any case not lose any personal information. The update rolls out for the:
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch SE
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 3

In addition to watchOS 7.4, you can also download macOS 11.3. This update adds support for the AirTag, Apple’s new Bluetooth tracker, among other things.
