Ducati has rolled out a recall for the XDiavel. If the backrest for the pillion passenger, which is supplied separately with the motorcycle, is not properly mounted, hairline cracks may develop, which could eventually cause the support to break off.

As early as 2017, Ducati received the first warranty claims from backrests that had broken off, after which an investigation was immediately started to determine the possible causes. Initially, the broken supports were analyzed, but no errors could be found.
Ducati tried to collect as many damaged backrests as possible for further investigation, but the analysis was complicated by the fact that the backrest was supplied as a separate part with the XDiavel and was therefore not installed at the factory. It was up to the customer to decide whether he wanted the support mounted or not.
The installation of the support could therefore have been done by the dealer, but also by the customer himself or third parties, and these variables complicated the investigation. During monitoring, Ducati eventually managed to identify six potential cases. In the final report, Ducati concluded that the breakage of the support was the result of incorrect installation and/or incorrect use, by using the back support as an extended saddle.
The recall therefore concerns all XDiavels from 2016 to 2023. The backrest will be inspected at the Ducati dealer for hairline cracks and replaced if necessary. In addition, a warning sticker will be placed on the bracket to remind riders of correct use.
