Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally: for true globetrotters

In the third installment of the 2023 Ducati World Premiere Web series, Ducati has presented the new Multistrada V4 Rally, with which the Italians have targeted the real globetrotters.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally: for true globetrotters

After the launch of the Multistrada V4, it was of course not a question of if, but when there would be a more off-road oriented version of it, as a successor to the Multistrada 1260 Enduro, although there is no mention of this in the press communication. “With the Rally, Ducati has taken the globetrotter spirit of the Multistrada V4 to an even higher level, thanks to improved rider and passenger comfort, longer range and more off-road capability,” said Ducati.

To start with the latter. Most eye-catching are the 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, fitted with more adventurous Pirelli tyres, crash bars all around, wider and more robust footrests with removable rubbers and suspension with longer travel of now 200 mm front and rear (15 mm more than the Multistrada 1260 Enduro). Like the Multistrada V4, the Rally with semi-active suspension features Skyhook DDS EVO technology, but now with a new Power Mode specifically for off-road use.

The suspension of the Multistrada V4 Rally is also equipped with a so-called Autoleveling function, which ensures that the ride height remains constant when the driver, pillion passenger and luggage change. In addition, the suspension now features an Easy Lift function for the first time that lowers the ride height when you turn the engine on – a system that makes getting on and off easier and was first presented by Harley-Davidson at the Pan America.

Ducati relinquishes the Multistrada V4 Rally for peak power of 170PS at 10,750rpm and peak torque of 121Nm at 8,750rpm, claiming a highly linear torque curve for smooth and progressive response at all engine speeds. The block, which weighs just 66.7 pounds, has a counter-rotating crankshaft, adopted from MotoGP racers, for reduced inertia.

In order to take full advantage of the Multistrada V4, Ducati had developed four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro), with the Multistrada V4 Rally now the Enduro mode has undergone an important evolution. In Enduro mode, the top power is reduced to 114 hp, with a dynamic and direct throttle response, according to the Italians.

The DSS Evolution suspension is adjusted for off-road use in Enduro mode (which is shown in the TFT display by means of an off-road helmet), the DTC traction control intervenes later and the DWC wheelie control is even completely switched off. The ABS on the rear wheel has also been disabled and the cornering function of the ABS has been adjusted for off-road use.

In addition to cornering ABS, the Multistrada V4 Rally is equipped with Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) as standard, controlled of course by the latest generation Bosch IMU, which continuously controls the roll, yaw and pitch. of the engine. Unlike the regular Multistrada V4, the Multistrada V4 Rally is equipped with radar at the front and rear as standard, to support adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection.

The 6.5″ TFT display can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth, after which you can use the display as navigation via the Ducati Connect app, but that was no different on the regular V4.

The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally will be marketed in 3 different versions: Adventure Radar, equipped with adaptive cruise control and blind spot recognition, Adventure Travel & Radar, with additional aluminum side cases and heated grips and saddles and the Full Adventure, which is still available there. once added a homologated Akrapovic muffler and carbon front fender.

Available from February 2023 in the colors Ducati Red and Brushed Aluminum & Matt Black.
