Dutch people more often rent a car abroad

Last summer, Dutch people turned to rental companies remarkably often for a rental car. Large increases can be seen in particular in Switzerland, South Africa and Canada.

In total, Dutch holidaymakers rented 63 percent more cars this summer than last year. This undoubtedly also has something to do with the shortage of rental cars that occurred last year, but comparison site EasyTerra speaks of a very significant increase here and there. Switzerland was the biggest grower with 200 percent when it comes to cars rented by Dutch people. In the same holiday period (July and August), 170 percent more cars were rented by Dutch people in South Africa, while Canada came in third with an increase of 163 percent.

Despite the large ‘distant’ increases, Southern Europe remains a favorite among Dutch car renters. Spain, Italy and Greece are the most popular places for Dutch people to rent a car, in that order. Finally, EasyTerra notes that the rental period has remained virtually the same. This will be an average of 9.5 days in 2023, compared to 9.4 in 2022.
