Easy to rent a bike everywhere

The OV-fiets is just a rental bike, but then from the NS. That is why the yellow-blue bicycles are mainly found at stations. They are intended to make destinations that are less close to a station more easily accessible. Handy, that saves a taxi ride or a long walk and you do not have to take into account departure times of tram, bus or metro.

You can only rent a bicycle if you have a personal OV chip card with a bicycle subscription. The subscription is almost free (0.01 euros per year), but renting an OV bicycle does of course cost money. You pay 3.95 euros per bike (November 2021) for 24 hours. After 72 hours, a surcharge of EUR 5 per day will also be charged. You do not have to pay on the spot for renting, the amount will be debited afterwards.

For the next steps, a personal OV chip card required. Please ask first via ov-chipkaart.nl. If you have a card that is not registered, you cannot rent a bicycle.

If you want to rent a bicycle, you must have a bicycle subscription on your personal OV chip card. This costs one euro cent per year.

• Go to the website of the NS to add the free OV bicycle subscription to the personal OV chip card.
• Accept the cookies, or set minimal cookies.
• click on Continue to order.
• If you already have an NS account, click on login.
  • Enter email address and password and click login.
  • Check the details and click Continue to map details.
• No NS account yet? Then create one first.
  • Click in the box below ‘Email address’, type an email address and click Continue to data.
  • Fill in the requested information, such as date of birth, name and address.
  • Click at the bottom Continue to map details.
• Under ‘I already have a personal OV-chipkaart’, enter the code of your personal OV-chipkaart. This can be found on your pass under ‘Card number’. The first four digits are already filled in.
• Put a tick in front of I agree with.
• click on To pay.
• You have to pay one cent to be able to pay for the bicycle rental in the future. Click on your couch.
• The following steps differ per bank. Pay as usual.

You can now rent a bike!

There are approximately three hundred rental locations in the Netherlands: at many stations, at metro and bus stops and in some parking lots. Rent a bike? If you have not already done so, put the bicycle subscription at a machine on your chip card . Then go to one of the locations and rent one or two bicycles there with your OV chip card. How you do this depends on the rental location. at a guarded bicycle shed a garage owner will scan your card and the bicycle. Other variants are: a OV-fietspunt, bicycle locker, bicycle carousel, self-service parking facility and a bicycle box.

Ready to ride your bike? Return the bicycle at the same location. You will receive the cost overview at the end of the month. With your bank statements you will see a debit for the bicycle from NS GROEP IZ NS REIZIGERS.
