Editorial team looks ahead to 2022 – Roy Kleijwegt

After almost two years of corona, looking into the future is more difficult than ever. An energy crisis has recently emerged. Chip shortages throw product but especially production schedules upside down. As a result, new models are launched on the market six months later. This is reflected in our annual personal previews, which include not only cars. Today speaking: Roy Kleijwegt.

‘Looking forward’ implies a bit that you are looking forward to something. And now to say that I think it’s great that Ferrari is coming out with an SUV or crossover, well no. I still think the Lamborghini Urus is a bizarre non-car and I wouldn’t miss it for a moment if it hadn’t arrived. Of course, and not to my surprise, that SUV is selling like crazy, which should be enough to silence all the critics. And with those numbers in mind, Ferrari will also tack next year.

The development of the Purosangue, as the crossover project of the Italians is currently called, started many years ago. Supercar SUVs are a gap in the market and also the most sacred brand of all doesn’t want to miss the boat (and pockets of money). If he does get there, I’d like to know what the Italians made of it. Can they give the car enough soul? The Lambo mentioned is too much Audi, but maybe Ferrari will succeed. For those who still think it’s all sacrilege, keep in mind that these types of models earn the manufacturer so much money that there is enough budget to make a real supercar. Without the Porsche Cayenne there would be no 911 GT3 Touring and without the Maserati Levante there would be no MC20. So we are all happy. However?
