After almost two years of corona, looking into the future is more difficult than ever. An energy crisis has recently emerged. Chip shortages throw product but especially production schedules upside down. As a result, new models are launched on the market six months later. This is reflected in our annual personal previews, which include not only cars. Today we speak: Lars Krijgsman.
The power is in repetition. What is not, may yet come. Two clichéd expressions that I throw in the blender to pour the resulting sludge over my preview of 2022. Just like last year, I oracle about Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand that has Europe in its sights.
Why Genesis? First of all because of the design. The models of the brand do not look exactly European, which for years was a pitfall for brands such as the Infiniti, which has since left Western Europe. In Europe, we seem to be ready for more friendly-lined cars, which don’t look like they wanted to rip your soul out of your body just yesterday. This is evidenced by the warm reception to which the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the less retro, but much more bombastic designed Kia EV6 were treated. I don’t call those two family members of Genesis for nothing. With the GV60, Genesis has a technical sister model of that electric pair and that makes the GV60 the perfect model to introduce Genesis in the Netherlands. The GV60 does remarkably little to me and that has nothing to do with its promising electrical engineering.
No, my love still goes out to the G80 (picture above). That gorgeous G80. Both the GV60 and 5-series competitor G80 and its siblings G70 (3-series), GV70 (X3) and GV80 (X5) – all with almost Bentley-esque interiors – have been confirmed to be coming to Europe . From 2025, Genesis will be completely electric and the Netherlands is certainly not a Land of Confusion in that regard. Good news for G80 fans: an electric version of that car already exists. I say: Genesis, fall into our arms. That’s all.
