The Israeli Electreon will install a section of charging motorway in Northern Italy on a trial basis. Right: a stretch of road on which electric cars can be charged while driving.
Electreon, which appears to be focusing on the development of wireless charging technology for EVs, is entering into a partnership with a broad spectrum of mainly Italian companies and institutions. They also include Iveco and Stellantis. These (truck) car manufacturers supply vehicles to test the technology. This is necessary, because of course an EV must be receptive to wireless charging.
It is a stretch of road parallel to the A35 in Italy, between Milan and Brescia. Thanks to a connection of approximately 1 megawatt, electric cars will soon be able to be charged over a length of just over a kilometer without a physical connection. This is not only possible when stationary, but also while driving.
In addition to the technical side of the matter, Electreon also wants to investigate how money can be made on such an ‘electric toll road’. Numerous ‘Internet of Things’ applications are also being tested, which should further increase the safety and efficiency of EVs.
Electreon does not seem to be an amateur player and previously entered into a partnership in Germany with Volkswagen, among others.
