Volkswagen’s ID label is growing steadily. In about two years, Volkswagen will come up with a fully electric alternative to the Passat, which can be seen in a special camouflage suit on this set of spy photos.

The Volkswagen Passat will soon look different than you are used to. Around 2023, Volkswagen will launch a new generation Passat that may only appear as a Variant in Europe. That new Passat is said to just use MQB technology again, which means that there will be no fully electric version. Volkswagen will come with an electric sedan-like, which can be seen somewhat dressed as a Tesla Model 3 on these spy plates.

The sedan-like visible in these photos promises to be a spacious model with its relatively long wheelbase. Incidentally, this electric newcomer will probably also get a more spacious Variant brother. Volkswagen showed the ID Space Vizzion in 2019, a study model that served as a clear preview of an electric station wagon. Not much can be said about the design of the electric Passat alternative in these photos, although you can of course count on the ID design language that Volkswagen has already poured over the ID3, ID4 and ID5. Striking design elements are the recessed door handles in the doors and the rising line at the D-pillar. Incidentally, it is still the question whether the car in these photos is actually a sedan. The short rear suggests that Volkswagen is turning its new EV into a five-door.

Like its existing ID brothers, Volkswagen’s electric newcomer sits on the MEB platform. Count on both rear- and four-wheel drive variants and even on a sporty oriented GTX version. Furthermore, we can assume powers of up to 400 hp and a range of – in the best case – between 600 and 700 kilometers. Volkswagen will build the model in Emden, where it currently produces the Passat and Arteon.
