The Volkswagen Group’s electric offensive is in full swing. Volkswagen and Skoda come with various EVs and Audi is also participating in the battle. The manufacturer will do this next year with the E-tron GT, but also with two relatively compact SUVs. One of those compact electric SUVs has gotten into production trim. It is the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron.

At last year’s Geneva Motor Show, Audi presented the Q4 e-tron Concept, a preview of an electric SUV that should be seen as Audi’s equivalent of the Volkswagen ID4 and Skoda Enyaq iV. The ID4 and Enyaq get sister models with a more sloping roofline, so-called coupé SUVs, and Audi also comes with a flattened version of the Q4 e-tron. Earlier this year we were already digitally acquainted with the preview of that Q4 Sportback e-tron and now the production version of that electric SUV has also been caught out.

Just like the final version of the Q4 e-tron, the Q4 Sportback e-tron will closely resemble the study model that preceded it. Naturally, a number of design elements have been adapted for the production stage. For example, the type that will be launched early next year will have headlights that are thicker than the flat ones of the study model. The exuberant bumper work of the concept car has also been somewhat toned down

The Q4 Sportback e-tron, like the Q4 e-tron, will be placed on the MEB platform specially designed for compact to medium-sized electric models. The Concept shown in the middle of this year had a 204 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a unit of 102 hp on the front axle, good for a system power of 306 hp and 310 Nm. In the bottom of the 4.6 meter long SUV, which falls between the Q3 and Q5 in size, was an 82 kWh battery pack with which a range of 450 kilometers should be possible. The final production version, which will be presented this year, will be available with less powerful powertrains, just like the ID4 and Enyaq.

We don’t have a Dutch price indication yet, but Audi is aiming to put the rear-wheel drive basic version in Germany for less than € 40,000 in the order books.
