Blue details
The all-electric version of the new X1 is one of the new electric cars presented by BMW this year. The brand now shows a design sketch of the iX1 called newcomer.
BMW has a brand new generation X1 in the development rooms. That new X1 will be an important car, because it will be the first X1 that also comes with a fully electric version. Big brother X3 is already available as an electric iX3 and so it is not surprising that BMW also introduces the X1 to that i-line.
The electric iX1 will differ from the versions with combustion engines in a similar way to the iX3. Count on a closed kidney grille and an extensive array of blue details on both the inside and the outside. The fact that the X1 will have both an electric version and versions with combustion engines, of course, indicates that it is not a dedicated electric model. Although the iX is only available as an EV, the BMW i4 is an electric variant of the 4-series Gran Coupé and the i5 and i7 will be electric versions of the 5 and 7 series. BMW therefore follows a different path in the EV field than, for example, Mercedes-Benz. Although Mercedes-Benz also supplies electric versions of existing models in the lower segments, such as the EQA and EQB, cars such as the EQE and EQS are based on a completely different basis than successively the E and S class.
Just like the current X1, BMW’s new entry-level SUV will again get a brother from Mini. The British brand is coming with a new Countryman, a car that, like the X1, also gets a fully electric variant.
