Electric Bollinger B1 and B2 in production form

The American start-up Bollinger Motors has shown the B1 and B2 in practically production-ready form. The two electric workhorses each get a starting price of around € 104,000.

Bollinger Motors, which was still based in New York in 2018, but now based in Michigan, showed a first prototype of the B1, an angular and almost Defender-like electric off-roader 2.5 years ago. More than a year later, the B1 was joined by a second potential newcomer to the brand: the Bollinger B2. The B2 is basically the pick-up version of the B1. Bollinger Motor is now showing the production ready versions of the B1 and B2.

The renewed B1 and B2 still look very much like the prototypes shown earlier, but have really been modified on a number of points. For example, the company has increased the shoulder line and enlarged the entire windows all around. According to Bollinger, this creates more headroom and a larger storage space in the muzzle of the B1 and B2, the so-called ‘frunk’. Also striking: the cooling opening for the various EV components is concealed in the front bumper. The radiator is therefore located behind the bumper, previously the B1 and B2 had cooling openings around the headlights on both sides of the front. The B-pillar is now slightly further forward, which, according to Bollinger, makes getting in and out easier for rear passengers. The sliding windows at the front and rear have been replaced by conventional ones that sink into the doors.

Specifications

Both the B1 and the B2 are four-wheel drive and have an aluminum body. The pair will get a powertrain consisting of two electric motors that is 623 hp and 906 Nm strong. A sprint from a standstill to a speed of 100 km / h should be done by the 2,270 kilo duo in 4.5 to 5 seconds. The top speed? About 160 kilometers per hour. The B1 and B2 are certainly not aimed at pure speed, but have to stand their ground right next to the asphalt. They have a ground clearance of almost 40 centimeters and have suspension travel of about 26 centimeters. In addition, the pair must be able to pull up to 3,400 kilos. The battery pack has a capacity of 142 kWh, good for an intended range (ETA) of 322 kilometers. The aforementioned frunk is extra interesting, because it flows into the interior space. Those who make a deposit of $ 1,000 can already order a B1, B2 or chassis cab version. Both the B1 and B2 must cost about $ 125,000, which is about $ 104,000. Quite a sum for a rudimentary off-roader. It is not yet known whether and when Bollinger will bring its EV workhorses to Europe. First, the company still has to crystallize how it will set up American production.
