World record for slippery EV

Electric cars can drive more than 2,500 kilometers without recharging

Do you find an electric car with a range of more than 700 kilometers impressive? Then you probably haven’t seen this slippery EV from the TUfast Eco Team of the Technical University of Munich. The bright minds of that German student team have driven more than 2,500 kilometers electrically without recharging. And that with a 15.5 kWh battery!

The TUfast Eco student team from the Technical University of Munich has achieved a Guinness World Record. The team drove an electric car 2,573 kilometers and 790 meters on a single battery charge. And with a battery pack that is also quite small with a capacity of 15.5 kWh.

The car used for the record attempt was of course not a home-grown EV. The record car was a modified version of the Muc022 with which the team had previously participated in economy competitions for electric cars. The record kilometers were covered in an empty aircraft hangar at Munich Airport. The previous record distance was 1,608 kilometers. The distance was covered in ‘just four days’. After 99 hours of driving, the distance was almost 2,574 kilometers. This means that the average speed was about 26 km/h. Certainly not representative of how electric passenger cars are driven, but it has given the team a nice record. The average energy consumption was 0.6 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The 3.4 meter long and exactly one meter low Muc022 weighs only 170 kilos and has a Cd value of only 0.159. The monocoque of the Muc022 is made of a carbon fiber composite and weighs only 18.6 kilos.
