Protect and Charge
The electric passenger car is also gaining ground in the United States. The EVs are slowly but surely even reaching the police forces. General Motors has now presented the police version of the electric Chevrolet Blazer EV.
Recently we were introduced to a Tesla Model Y turned into a police car that will serve in the United States and today we have the Chevrolet Blazer EV for you as a cop. The Chevrolet Blazer EV itself is not new. The electric competitor of the Ford Mustang Mach-E already made its public debut in the middle of last year.
The Chevrolet Blazer EV Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) – as it is called in full – has been presented by GM’s Evolve division. Evolve is the branch of the American car manufacturer that deals with cars for companies or agencies that manage large fleets, including the American police forces.
Being transported never seems fun to us, but if it happens to you in the United States, there is a chance that you can take a seat in the back seat of this Blazer EV PPV. Don’t expect to be overloaded with the best that The General has to offer you. The Police Blazer has extra hard-wearing fabric upholstery in the front and a vinyl-wrapped rear seat. It sits on 20-inch steel wheels, has extra powerful Brembo brakes and power front windows, as well as power side mirrors. The tailgate can only be opened manually, which undoubtedly has to do with the speed at which this must be electrically possible.
The PPV-Blazer has front and rear skid plates that actually offer protection, a special chassis and of course the necessary extra power points in the interior. Also notable is Protected Idle. This should make it possible for officers to lock the car for hours while the EV is ‘on’. Police forces can also order additional LED spotlights, a searchlight and connection points for sirens and light bars.
The Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV is not as potent as the 565 hp SS, the top model. Nevertheless, the 505 horsepower that the two electric motors generate together are certainly not bad. The top speed should be 209 km/h. Fast charging is possible up to 190 kW.
