MEB brothers all three most popular among Volkswagen Group brands
The electric mid-sized cars from Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi certainly do the brands no harm. Last month ID4, Enyaq and Q4 e-tron were the most supplied models from Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi. Over the whole of 2023 so far, they are also each in the same place compared to the other cars from their own stable, but at number 2.
The Volkswagen ID4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 e-tron, which are almost identical in terms of dimensions and powertrains, did very well in the Netherlands last month. The mid-sized vehicles, all resting on the MEB platform, were all three in first place in the delivery statistics for the month of May. They left all other in-house models behind.
Volkswagen delivered 3,167 ATOs in May. Nearly 25 percent of that was an electric ID4. The brand registered 715 copies of the ID4 in May. This makes it by far the best-selling VW of the month of May, because at number 2 we find the Polo with 481 copies. The Tiguan is number 3 with 327 units, and ID4’s brother ID3 is number 4 with 306 new registrations. Yes, the days when the Golf was the pillar of Volkswagen’s successes are definitely over. Looking at all registrations in 2023 so far, the ID4 is not the most popular model. That is the Polo, with 2,587 copies. With 1,770 units, the ID4 is in a solid second place, ahead of the T-Roc and the ID3, which scores significantly worse.
Skoda Kodiaq secretly more successful
The MEB model is also continuing nicely at Skoda, good for 490 registrations in May. That is more than the Octavia or Kodiaq, which are at number 2 and 3 with 345 and 285 copies. In January to April, however, things did not go so well with the Enyaq, so that the annual total at the end of May is 1,572 units. The middle-class EV is therefore also in second place at Skoda in the annual totals, behind the Kodiaq with 1,855 units – which is secretly still doing quite well. Skoda delivered a total of 1,711 cars in May.
With 1,117 deliveries, Audi made far fewer customers happy with a new car than Skoda and Volkswagen, but it now seems to have the production continuity of the Q4 e-tron in order. In May, the brand registered 316, against a 5-month total of 1,251. This makes the Q4 e-tron just not as successful as the Audi A3 (246 units in May), which guards first place with 1,434 deliveries. Third place is for the Audi Q2, which has scored significantly less well with 371 units in 2023 so far. The Audi Q8 e-tron signed for 331 units, the RS E-Tron GT plays an electro role in the margin with 7 units.
