The Jeep Wrangler was introduced to electrification for the first time in the model’s history as a fluffy-in hybrid 4xe. Jeep continues, however. The brand has shown a first image of a fully electric study model based on the Wrangler: the Wrangler BEV Concept.
Jeep previews the next 80 years, a promotional video created specifically for the Super Bowl. At least, it seems so. The brand shows beautiful images of landscapes, well-known Jeeps of yesteryear and the interior of the new Grand Cherokee L. with screens interlaced with screens. Electrification is also playing an increasingly important role in Jeep, the manufacturer indicates. Although Jeep had a plug-in hybrid on the menu in China for several years, the plug-in versions of the Renegade and Compass were the first expressions of the electrified Jeep in Europe. Recently, the Jeep Wrangler was also introduced to a plug-in hybrid powertrain as a 4xe, but it does not stop there. Jeep shows on a specially designed web page fragments of what it proposes to show in the near future. One of the novelties is the Wrangler BEV Concept.
Jeep indicates that it presents the Wrangler BEV Concept during the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab in the US state of Utah. Jeep does not release specifications about the car yet. We do see that the electric Wrangler also retains the ladder chassis of the original and that the battery pack is divided into two parts on both sides of the drive shaft. The electric motor appears to be in the nose, which would mean that Jeep does not choose to give the electric Wrangler an electric motor in each wheel. More electrification news pertains to the recently unveiled Grand Cherokee L, the full-length version of the upcoming regular Grand Cherokee. Jeep has released an image showing the new Grand Cherokee’s muzzle, a plate that also reads ‘4xe’. That can only mean one thing: the Grand Cherokee will also get a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
We will know more at the end of March, when the harbinger of an electric Jeep Wrangler will make its public debut.
