A special announcement from Opel. The brand has an electric Manta in the development rooms. Unfortunately, this is not a car that goes into production on a large scale.
Opel releases a first image of the Manta GSe Elektromod, a so-called ‘restomod’ of the Manta A that appeared on the market in 1970. A restomod is a classic that, in addition to being refurbished to perfection, is also interspersed with new techniques. The Manta GSe Elektromod is, as its name implies, fully electric, and will also receive the new family face.
According to Rüsselsheim, the primal Manta has served as inspiration for its new design language, which is characterized, among other things, by the Opel Vizor that we see on the new Mokka, the electric Mokka-e and, in a sense, on the renewed Crossland. Although Opel only shows one image of the electric Manta GSe Electromod for the time being, the modern snout on the special creation is already clearly visible. Whether it all fits well together, we only know when the car is presented in its entirety. In any case, it is fun and striking.
Opel Elektro GT
The Manta GSe Elektromod gets an unspecified electric powertrain and Opel also squeezes a fully digital instrumentation into a modernized classic. Nice detail: we already knew the designation ‘elektro’ from the Elektro GT, an experimental electric Opel GT with two 120 hp electric motors with which Opel made a record attempt at the Hockenheimring in 1971. Or will the Germans eventually put the name Manta on an electrically powered coupé? That seems unlikely. In 2013, Opel dusted off the model name Monza for a study model, but that was it.
