Polestar 4

Before Polestar itself publicizes it, AutoWeek can already tell you the prices of the Polestar 4. The electric Polestar 4 is confusingly located between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3. And not just in terms of size. The Polestar 4 is more expensive than the Polestar 2, but less expensive than big brother Polestar 3.

When Polestar released the first photos and information of the Polestar 4 in April this year, it became clear that it would nestle between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of both size and price. The Polestar 4 has been given the number 4 because it is the fourth model to be presented. An indicative price of around €60,000 was initially communicated for the Polestar 4. In any case, it far exceeds that in the Netherlands. The Polestar 4 has a starting price of almost €65,000. The most affordable Polestar 2 is €13,600 less expensive than the Polestar 4. The most affordable Polestar 3 is in turn more than €25,000 more expensive than the entry-level Polestar 4.

As a Long Range Single Motor, the Polestar 4 has a fiscal starting price – excluding preparation costs – of €63,500. If we add the costs of making it ready to drive, which amount to €1,300 for the Polestar 2 and 3, we arrive at a starting price of €64,800. The Polestar 4 is also available as a more powerful Long Range Dual Motor with – indeed – two electric motors and therefore more power. The Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor will set you back €72,800. After all, the tax price is €71,500.

Polestar 4 Long Range Single Motor

The Polestar 4 has one electric motor as a Long Range Single Motor. It delivers 272 hp and 343 Nm to the rear wheels. With this power, the Polestar 4 sprints from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. Its top speed: 200 km/h. The battery pack has a capacity of 94 kWh (gross: 102 kWh). The electric range is more interesting. This must be no less than 600 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with up to 200 kW.

Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor

For more power, the Polestar 4 comes with two electric motors: the Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor. Just like the Long Range Single Motor, the four-wheel drive variant has a usable battery capacity of 94 kWh, but with 544 hp and 686 Nm it is significantly more powerful. It accelerates from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Its top speed: 200 km/h. At 564 kilometers, the electric range is lower than that of the Long Range Single Motor, but is of course still not low. Fast charging is possible with up to 200 kW.

Polestar 4: without rear window in the tailgate!

Dimensions

The Polestar 4, visually inspired by the Precept Concept from 2020, is a striking model. It is not an SUV like the Polestar 3, but a relatively low five-door liftback. The Polestar 4 is not, like the Polestar 3, on the SPA2 platform, nor on the CMA base that you know from the Polestar 2. Instead, it is on the platform called SPA developed by Volvo and Geely and which is available in various versions under many of Geely’s EVs. From the Lotus Eletre to the Smart #1, Volvo EX30 and Zeekr X. The Polestar 4 is 4.84 meters long and 1.54 meters high. The car is just under 25 centimeters longer than the Polestar 2 and exceeds that car in height by about 6 centimeters.

Striking: the Polestar 4 has no rear window. The fifth door is completely closed. A camera at the top of the tailgate provides a view of what is happening behind the car. A 500-liter luggage compartment is hidden under that fifth door. With the rear seats folded down, you can fit 1,536 liters in the Polestar 4. There is also a luggage compartment under the front hatch, although it is so-called frunk certainly not large at 15 liters.

Equipment

The standard equipment of the Polestar 4 includes 20-inch alloys, an active suspension, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a 15.4-inch infotainment screen, electrically adjustable and heated front seats with memory function, an electrically operated tailgate, keyless entry , front and rear parking beepers and a 360-degree camera.

More Polestar

The Polestar 4 is not the only model that Polestar will soon bring to the market. The Polestar 4 will be delivered from 2024 and the Polestar 3 should also be available in that year. Polestar also has the Polestar 5 in the pipeline, an EV with which it wants to make life difficult for cars such as the Porsche Taycan, Mercedes-Benz EQS and Tesla Model S. The Polestar 6 is also planned: an electric convertible. Exciting!
