The electric successor to the Porsche 718 Boxster is taking shape. Literally, because in these photos we see the Porsche Boxster EV better than ever!

Yes: the Porsche 718 series will be electric. The ‘entry level’ of Porsche’s sports car range is less of a holy grail than the 911 and so Porsche sees a great opportunity here to extensively electrify everything. This is based on the example of the spectacular Mission R. As usual, we are counting on a closed Cayman and an open Boxster for the time being, but it is once again the Boxster that was caught by our spy photographer during test work. Compared to last time, considerably less camouflage material has been used, so that we can get a better look at the shapes of the electric Boxster.

The nose shows many similarities with that of the recently tightened Taycan and therefore has relatively flat headlight units. We also see similarities at the rear, for example in the continuous rear light bar. The charging port seems to be placed in the middle of the butt. On the rear deck there is a ‘bump’ with a very special third brake light, which, just like in the spoiler of a 911, is vertical instead of horizontal. This detail can be seen for the first time and is reminiscent of the special brake light that the Fiat Barchetta once received halfway through its life.

The characteristic proportions of the electric Boxster were once created to accommodate a six-cylinder boxer engine between the two seats and the rear axle, but remain intact in the electric version. However, things will be much tighter than before, and not just because that is currently the fashion. THE electric drive requires less cooling air, so the noticeable slots in the side can disappear. Although… the part directly behind the doors is still masked off, so don’t be surprised if a cooling opening appears here.

Porsche is expected to unveil the electric 718s – if that is what they are called – this year and roll into the showroom next year. As with the Macan, Porsche will most likely continue to build ‘old’ petrol versions for some time to come, whether or not exclusively for countries where they do not like EVs.
