Coming early 2024
Porsche is still working hard on the first electric Macan. It has now appeared in front of our spy photographer’s lens for the first time in a long time and has lost quite a bit of camouflage material since the last time.
Anyone who was already on their hind legs at the arrival of the first Porsche Cayenne should have known that Porsche would eventually even come up with an electrically powered SUV. It is almost impossible to get further from the roots of the brand. Yet it is really going to happen; the electric Porsche Macan is coming. It’s been a while since we last saw it. Last year around this time we got to see it quite extensively on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Now the ‘Maycan’ reappears in its home country Germany, but with quite a few less stickers on its basically recognizable carriage.
Once again, it is good to see that the electric Porsche Macan gets a snout that is somewhat reminiscent of that of its more slender-lined brother, the Taycan. This is mainly due to the shape of the headlights. At the back, for the first time, it is now quite clear to see what the taillights really look like. Here too it looks especially familiar; it all fits neatly into Porsche’s current model range. The electric Porsche Macan also gets slightly recessed rear lights that are at least partly connected to each other with a continuous stripe of LED lighting. Between the fairly flat rear window and the rear lights is a fairly subtle rear spoiler that appears at certain speeds, braking actions, or with the push of a button.
We actually expected the electric Porsche Macan (which may be given another name) this year, but the introduction was postponed to 2024. This was due to a delay in preparing the PPE base on which the electric Porsche Macan is enthroned . At the end of last year we already received various details about that base. Thanks to the 800V structure, the PPE platform enables high charging speeds (faster than the Taycan) and there will be electric powertrains with powers of up to 612 hp and 1,000 Nm. This immediately reveals the maximum power of the new Macan. The electric Porsche Macan will have a battery pack with a maximum capacity of 100 kWh, which should logically enable a driving range of well over 600 km.
Incidentally, the regular Porsche Macan will remain in the showroom next to this electric one for another two years. Porsche expects the electric to become just as popular.
