Harbinger for trim level or special edition

Last year, Renault and Roland Garros joined forces for a partnership, where the French tennis tournament previously pledged its heart to Renault competitor Peugeot for years. We now get to see the first result of Roland Garros’ new love.
Peugeot and Roland Garros go way back. Ever since the 205, Peugeot introduced Roland Garros versions of some of its models every few years, each of which had a fairly rich equipment and quirky yet classic decoration. The 106, 306, 206 CC and 806, among others, had such a version. Especially the color dark green often came back, in combination with a badge or two to indicate that you were dealing with a special edition.
As far as the latter is concerned, little has changed now, but there is certainly change. Since last year, it is not Peugeot, but Renault that is committed to the tennis tournament as a French car manufacturer. That is why the brand is now presenting a Roland Garros version of its electric Renault 5 Prototype, with the French stating that it is the harbinger of a production version. Whether it is a limited edition special edition or ‘just’ a not too exclusive trim level, still remains a guess.

Less ‘sporty’ color scheme than we’ve seen so far
The Renault 5 Prototype that the brand unveils at Roland Garros (which takes place from May 22 to June 11) certainly does not lack the aforementioned badges. In addition, the car is sprayed by Renault in satin white, while the wheels are given a blue tint and the roofline has a light-colored accent. Here and there you will find references to the tennis tournament in and on the car, such as behind the front screens.
The production version of the Renault 5 has yet to be revealed and may follow this year. The fully electric B-segmenter will be available at dealers in 2024, with Renault aiming for a sharper asking price than that of the competition. Incidentally, Alpine has also poured its sauce over the prototype, with this car as a result.
