Renault will eventually add a new all-electric model to the Mégane family. Today, Renault already shows a packed example of the electric Mégane. In addition, the brand immediately releases the first technical information of the new EV.

Renault showed the Mégane eVision in October last year. The Mégane eVision was a concept car with which Renault gave a clear signal: an electric model would be added to the Mégane family relatively quickly. The Mégane eVision looked at a handful of design details already quite production-ready. Renault is now showing photos of a wrapped pre-production version of its new electric model, a car that goes by the name Mégane E-Tech Electric.

The Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric is, as said, still quite in the stickers, but the final design of the car is already a lot to see. The electric Mégane E-Tech Electric has a large and striking flat Renault logo in its nose. Thin LED strips run from the logo to the headlamps, relatively flat units with a spur underneath that, in the case of this packed example, does not contain LED lighting. This was the case with the Mégane eVision.

We also see flat light units on the back. The LED taillights are decorated with striking ‘stripes’, among other things. A chrome strip runs almost the entire width of the buttocks, a flat strip that is only interrupted by the new, flat Renault logo that is placed centrally on the tailgate. The Mégane E-Tech Electric also has hidden rear handles. They are not in the usual place but are incorporated in the C-pillar. Matters such as the plastic decoration around the wheel arches and in the bumpers should give the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric the look of a crossover.

It is expected that the electric hatchback with crossover elements will soon have a place next to the Mégane in the range. The dimensions are undoubtedly fairly similar to those of the Mégane eVision shown last year. With a length of 4.21 meters, that show car was more than 15 centimeters shorter than the current Mégane (hatchback). Underneath is the CMF-EV platform developed together with Nissan, a basis intended purely for EVs. Just like the Mégane eVision, the Mégane E-Tech Electric in these photos has a 60 kWh battery in its bottom. Just like in that study model, the electric motor is 217 hp and 300 Nm strong. According to Renault, the Mégane E-Tech Electric should be able to score a WLTP range of 450 kilometers with this. Given the sticker on the car shown, the maximum charging power appears to be 160 kW.

The electric Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric is expected to be unveiled this year.
