‘Don’t take risks’
Maserati is preparing a successor to the now eleven-year-old Quattroporte. It just doesn’t seem like we can expect it anytime soon.
In recent years, Maserati has mainly focused on the MC20, the Grecale and the new GranTurismo. However, the Italian brand does not forget its top sedan, the Quattroporte. It has been running since 2013 and a successor is therefore not an unnecessary luxury. Maserati is already working on this behind the scenes and announced at the end of 2022 that it will have a fully electric powertrain. That just makes the development a bit more complex, it seems, because Autonews a spokesperson confirms that the new Quattroporte will arrive a little later than originally intended.
According to the spokesperson, the reason for the delay is that Maserati ‘wants to take zero risks with the performance of the car’. In other words, the brand is aiming high, but apparently some more time is needed to achieve its goals. Initially, the plan seemed to be to present the new Maserati Quattroporte early next year, but we can probably add at least a few months to that. It is not the first time that Maserati has taken a little more time than originally planned. The electric Grecale and GranTurismo were also somewhat delayed.
It is not yet entirely certain whether the new Quattroporte will also come onto the market with a combustion engine, just like those two. If so, there is still a chance that that version will be presented a little earlier. If the new Maserati Quattroporte gets the drivetrain of the GranTurismo Folgore, you can count on a power of 760 hp, although the 557 hp drivetrain of the Grecale Folgore may also be an option. If it also borrows from the Grecale for the battery, then you have a capacity of 105 kWh. This should give the Quattroporte a driving range of around 500 kilometers. Enough speculation for now, let’s wait and see.
