Still concept, but it’s coming

Cadillac is again venturing into a real top limousine. The fully electric Cadillac Celestiq is really coming, although a concept car will follow later this month. Now we get to see some of that again.
You read that right: Cadillac is not chasing the Mercedes-Benz S-class with the Celestiq, but the EQS. Then we should immediately mention that other top electric limousine, the Lucid Air. Just like those cars, the General Motors topper becomes an impressive, elongated sedan. Unlike the other two, it builds on Cadillac’s ‘heritage’. At least that’s what they say at Cadillac itself. However, there is something in it, because the flaming red interior is somewhat reminiscent of the huge sleds of the brand from the fifties.
The image shows the Celestiq interior from the boot. We also learn that the car will not be a sedan, but a five-door liftback. Exactly like the EQS, so. We see two separate seats in the back and of course also in the front, separated by a center tunnel with all kinds of armrests and touchscreens. It is also apparent from the outside that it is not a sedan. The released image (Photo 4) shows a flat rear window, but no protruding butt.
Yet the exterior of the Celestiq has what you could call ‘classic proportions’. By that we mean a long nose and a short overhang at the front, just like a limo with a large combustion engine in the nose. In that respect, the Cadillac looks more like the BMW i7 than the aforementioned Mercedes and Lucid, although there will be no version of the Celestiq with an internal combustion engine on board.
Cadillac is making a rapid transition to all-electric. The first step in this direction in 2021 was the Lyriq, which, in addition to part of its name, also shares many design elements with the Celestiq yet to be presented. However, the Lyriq is a mid-sized SUV, not a top-of-the-range limousine. The car is on GM’s Ultium platform, which can also be found under the all-electric GMC Hummer EV.
The ‘show car’ that serves as the harbinger of the Celestiq will be officially unveiled on July 22.
