Electric top sedan from BYD’s luxury brand possible to Europe

Attack on ‘premium EVs’

Electric top sedan from BYD’s luxury brand possible to Europe

BYD’s urge to expand, like that of the even larger Geely, also seems to know no bounds in a literal sense. More BYD electric models are coming from China to Europe at a rapid pace, making almost every new BYD with an electric powertrain a contender to eventually come to the Netherlands. Especially if we can already detect a link with Europe. That is now the case with the new large electric sedan from a BYD sub-brand.

BYD started its Dutch sales adventure with the electric Han and Tang and we now know the Atto 3, the Dolphin, the Seal and the Seal U. The speed with which BYD is bringing models to Europe and the Netherlands is virtually unprecedented. After all, it was only announced a year ago that the Louwman Group would become a BYD dealer partner in the Netherlands. It certainly doesn’t seem like BYD thinks the current European delivery range is wide enough. There are now a lot of indications that suggest that BYD is bringing its sub-brand Denza to Europe and sub-brand YangWang could also make the crossing to Europe.

Yang Wang U9

The sedan shows strong similarities at the front with this YangWang U9.

In the middle of this year, AutoWeek turned up patent plates of the U9 in Europe. The U9 is an electric supercar from BYD’s brand new luxury brand YangWang that made its Chinese debut at the beginning of this year, together with an electric SUV called the U8. YangWang’s range seems to be too thin for BYD with ‘only’ two models. It will apparently come with a new large luxury electric sedan. It has not yet been revealed at all, but AutoWeek can already show you on a patent image. BYD has also registered the design of this electric sedan in Europe, which opens the door for a arrival in Europe.

Wait a minute, is it an electric sedan? After all, we see a tank or tailgate on both the left and right side. It really does look like it. BYD has emphatically marketed YangWang as an electrical sub-brand. We know for sure that it is a YangWang because the front, despite the sedan’s design similarities with cars such as the BYD Seal, is even more similar to that of the electric YangWang U9. In addition, we see a recess in the center of the muzzle where the rectangular logo of YangWang fits perfectly. The brand name is written out on the front of the models sold as BYD. Technical specifications of BYD’s latest YangWang are not yet available. Should YangWang indeed come to Europe, it is not inconceivable that BYD will give the label a ‘more European’ name or perhaps just sell the cars as BYD.
