Electric alternative to the T-Cross will be available in 2026
Like many other manufacturers, Volkswagen is focusing part of its EV offensive on the relatively compact models that are popular in Europe. There will be an ID2, an electric model below it and a crossover that will be a step above the ID2. Volkswagen is now showing a first sketch of that electric compact crossover.
Since the disappearance of the e-Up, the ID3 has become the smallest electric Volkswagen you can buy, although with a length of 4.26 meters the hatchback is almost as long as a Golf. That should be smaller, according to Volkswagen. More compact electric models are coming. Around 2025, Volkswagen will launch a Polo-sized electric hatchback, which it already looked ahead to with the ID2all Concept. Below the ID2 – for which Volkswagen gives an expected starting price of €25,000 – there will be an even smaller EV that may be called ID1. VW appears to be sitting down with Renault for that car – which in turn should cost around 20 grand. But there’s more!
For example, the Wolfsburg manufacturer will launch a crossover alternative to the ID2 in 2026, which you can probably consider as the electric equivalent of the T-Cross. Like the ID2, it will be placed on a thoroughly modified MEB base called MEB Entry. Models on the MEB Entry platform are basically front-wheel drive, while the MEB cars known to date (ID3, ID4, ID5, ID7) are rear-wheel drive.
Volkswagen is now showing a first sketch of the compact electric crossover that will in a way fill the gap between the yet-to-be-revealed ID2 and the well-known ID3. Volkswagen is currently calling it ID.2all SUV, although we expect it to be ‘all’-part of that name will not be on the final production version. Skoda will also be launching a compact crossover on a MEB Entry basis in the foreseeable future. The Volkswagen ID2 SUV will be produced in Spain from 2026 together with the ID2, the Cupra Raval and the aforementioned Skoda.
