Exclusive: Toyota Corolla Cross registered in Europe

Toyota has the urge to expand well. After the Camry, the brand added the Yaris Cross and the brand new Highlander to its European portfolio, but there may be more in the pipeline! Techzle can exclusively report that Toyota has registered the design of the Corolla Cross with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

In the middle of this year, Toyota in Thailand presented a brand new SUV to the world: the Corolla Cross. With a length of 4.46 meters, the new high-legged one is much more of an SUV for the Corolla segment than the dynamically lined C-HR. Incidentally, the Corolla Cross shares its wheelbase of 2.64 with the C-HR. In terms of size, the Corolla Cross nestles neatly between the aforementioned C-HR and the RAV4. Earlier this year, the Dutch importer was unable to confirm whether the Corolla Cross would eventually come to Europe. Techzle holds patent plates that Toyota has registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and that sounds hopeful of course.

Toyota also says it cannot confirm whether the Corolla Cross will come to the Netherlands. Given the popularity of crossovers and SUV-like and the more SUV-like shape of the Corolla Cross compared to the C-HR, the car would actually add something to the Dutch delivery range. Toyota recently brought the Camry to the Netherlands and is expanding the delivery range early next year with the already presented Highlander, a seven-seater SUV already on the market in the United States.

The 4.46-meter Corolla Cross is four inches longer than the C-HR and about four inches shorter than the RAV4. The wheelbase of 2.64 meters is the same as that of the C-HR and Corolla Hatchback. The relatively soberly designed SUV has a luggage compartment with a volume of 487 liters. This makes the Corolla Cross considerably more spacious in the back than the C-HR, which consumes 377 liters. In Asia, the Corolla Cross is available with a 140PS, 177Nm 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that sends its power to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. There is also a Corolla Cross Hybrid, a hybrid version with the well-known 98 hp 1.8 that works together with a 72 hp electric motor, good for a system power of 122 hp. We know this powertrain from the Prius and Corolla. A four-wheel drive version does not exist. The dashboard of the Corolla Cross is almost one-to-one taken from the car with which it shares its name: the Corolla.
