At the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim, the Christmas holidays started very early for some of the employees. The low demand for cars from that factory plays a role in this.
The car industry is suffering from low demand for new cars. This is partly due to the crisis, but in some cases it is decline after decline. The latter applies to the Opel factory in Rüsselsheim, where the Insignia is built. The Insignia is no longer selling very well, and on top of that is the general declining demand for new cars. Reason for Opel to send some of its staff in Rüsselsheim home early on ‘Christmas holidays’, reports Automobilwoche. For this, the manufacturer uses both regular holidays and reduced working hours. They are not expected back in the workplace until 7 January.
Another reason mentioned is the preparation for the production of two new models in Rüsselsheim. Part of the factory is therefore temporarily not operational for manufacturing. It is probably the next Opel Astra, but also the new DS 4, which comes from group member DS. In the meantime, however, there is even more going on. Not so much in the factory, but in Opel’s headquarters. There the broom goes through the workforce, as it turned out for the first time two months ago.
